One hundred and twenty years ago, in 1892, "British medical missionary Wilfred Grenfell arrived in Labrador to investigate living conditions among local fishers for the United Kingdom's National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. He spent much of the summer sailing up and down the Labrador coast aboard the medical vessel Albert, treating about 900 people for a wide range of illnesses." (source: http://www.heritage.nf.ca/articles/society/grenfell-mission.php) From that adventure in 1892 the Grenfell Mission developed into one of the greatest medical missions in North American history. Now, 125 years later, in 2017, we follow in Dr.Grenfell’s footsteps by creating First Step to enhance medical care to those in living in northern tip of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. First Step will provide financial assistance to those traveling for medical care.
